A few hours later I confirmed the id: it is definitely #dogbane. It was growing in an area accessible to the minis and I found it in the pasture, so that's where my morning went. I pulled several pounds of it out of the ground and have set it out where I can bag it later and it is unlikely to go anywhere.
The suspect #dogbane.
There are a couple of other things it could be, but it checks most of the boxes right off the bat and dogbane is native to the area.
It's very pretty, if it weren't in such an awkward location and so very toxic to animals I'd let it stay. Confirming identity first before doing anything untoward.
Looks like its principle toxin is cymarin. Death in cattle have been reported with consumption of only 15 grams of the green leaves, but it seems 0.5 grams/kg is more common.
