Like yak-shaving and dogfooding among software developers circles, cat-herding is a colourful idiom common in community development circles.

Consider that we're all fiercely independent beings. Like cats! So in the absence of a formal decision-making structure that everyone has agreed to follow, trying to get people to all pull in the same direction, to achieve shared goals, can be like herding cats.

I've been musing passively about how I can develop locally while still making #ActivityPub requests in order to test in production, and was pretty close to just deploying my code on a test subdomain (and then making the call to my #Mastodon server — crag.social), but then realized I could just stand up two #NodeBB instances on my machine and have them gab to each other instead 🤖

@dhobern Nice idea, but (a) the DOIs don’t resolve, and (b) on my iPhone the column in the table with the download links is clipped (download button only becomes visible in landscape orientation). Together with the lack of image URLs, it seems a bit half-baked. #dogfooding (can BOLD build BOLD from its own dumps?) would be one way for #BOLDSystems make sure the dumps were maximally useful (that and make sure the DOIs are real and hence citable).

I love auto-generated documentation. And I wanted to auto-document this GitHub Action I had just made.

When presenting wireframes you often put notes to the side of a wireframe.

So I was thinking, perhaps a note-brush would be nice. The note itself is 'on' an icon (cell), but you see the note where the note brush is painting it.

(Not yet clear how youe would define width of note.)

Hmm the default canvas of my UX app has dark left column, created so you'd notice scrolling. But now I have an (optional) grid of points, so I no longer need that.

Also, it messes a bit with the img export auto-crop feature (diffing the reasonable removal of column as something you created).

So probably going to remove that dark column.
