I borrowed a 1944 Kay M-1 from a very generous friend to get me through the next month of gigs while my King is in the shop. I’ve played a lot of Kays, but never through my usual rig with with the same pickup. I didn’t realize how much of a difference a rosewood fingerboard makes to your slap tone (my King has an ebony fingerboard). Ebony ticks. Rosewood clacks. It makes a much bigger difference than strings do. I’m definitely making room for a Kay.

I’m playing Country Thursday at the Powerhouse Pub tonight in historic Folsom, California with the All Night #HonkyTonk Man, Geoffrey Miller (yes, we will be asked to play that song).

#PublicTransit from my house to the gig takes 2 hours and involves 2 buses, 1 train, and 1 km of walking. Not bad with a #DoubleBass if you don’t need an amp. I do. We also play until 1 a.m., and the first train after the gig leaves at 5:30 am. I’ll drive.
