Just had the most Twitter-like experience since I arrived here. Recalling divisive bots/ops posing as progressives, dogpiling other progressives and encouraging us to attack one another. I don't think this person I engaged with here is a bot, but man, I just don't get it. You can't say, "your younger generation is shittier than mine—mine is the best", and in the next breath say, "you younger generations always hate older ones". 🙄 Honestly!

What would be a useful feature is "restricting replies to mentioned" in order to prevent derailment and spambots as well as groupies spamming the replies of widely-shared posts.

Hey #FediVerse , can we talk about #dogpiling ? When you start to get that righteous anger over some injustice you hear about on the platform, take a second and ask yourself a couple things:

1. Is this really a trend I need to push back on, or just the offhand comments of one or two people?
2. Have several other popular accounts already commented on this?

If not, you wind up in this weird place with more people scolding others about the bad thing than actually doing the bad thing. 1/

@nathan Thanks for clarifying. I still think their political stance is (at the very least) *merky and poorly worded*. Also, this is a federation of servers so, unless I don't understand how Mastodon works (not impossible), being banned from one server doesn't ban you from the whole platform, you can still decide to move to another server... right? Anyway, even without all of that, what you are describing seems to be the classic online #dogpiling (as made famous by #Twitter), which is never OK.

Now you can get dogpiled or start a dogpile without any awareness, and without any controls other than convincing a mod to do the dirty work of tracking which perpetrators or instances to block, with less ability to curate IoCs than a botnet DDOS. Brilliant.
