Mary Cassatt was born #OTD (22 May 1844 - 15 June 1926). The cute #dog in her famous painting Little Girl in a Blue Armchair (1878) is Baptiste, a Brussels Griffon she got through her good friend & fellow #Impressionist Edgar Degas. She became a devotee to the breed thereafter & you can find them in a number of her other works! (The girl was a daughter of a friend of Degas' too.)

Today's random cute dog in art, seen at the Uffizi. Artist is thought to be Niccolo Rondinelli and it was painted in 1511. The description notes that the presence of elements such as the "Maltese terrier" made it unsuitable to be considered a sacred artwork. As far as I'm concerned, that's what does make it a sacred artwork. #DogsInArt #Maltese #CuteLittleWhiteDog
