Another installment of "Music, , and History": I'm having students assess The Project of the Library of Congress, asking questions like How was this like/unlike Boccaccio? Did it “cohere” as a project? (Does Boccaccio?)

More on the "Music, , and History" front: this year I'm including the contemporary chamber piece "Social Distancing” composed by OZNO (the moniker for HK Phil’s Principal Timpanist James Boznos) for 10 antiphonal musicians and mp3

Another recent work for my Music, and History course: the award-winning opera "On Call: COVID-19" by David Shenton and Christine Steyer. They characterize it as "An operatic love letter to global frontline health care workers." I use this as an introduction to how form shapes opera, and explore the intersection of news and with response.

So, I'm working on the list for Music, and History. I do so love the "Six Feet Apart" by Ethan Gans-Morse and Tiziana DellaRovere. They grounded their creativity in the diverse voices of their local community. I also appreciate the work's positive spin; their subtitle "Stories of and Transformation" says it all.
