I'm unsure how annoyed I should be with people who think prominent republican in good standing with the party can be held responsible for crimes.

On one hand I guess it's good that people get upset and expect consequences when Yet Another Republican is found to have committed some crime, but on the other hand it happens monthly and one'd think people would notice that no one ever gets sentenced.

There never were any chance that Trump would get prosecuted for his tax fraud or theft of documents, or Matt Gaetz for his trafficking and rape of an underage girl. They're every bit as above the law as some Chinese communist party princeling.

And no, it's not a rich vs poor thing, though that is a factor, it's that the republican party has subverted and intimidated the US law enforcement and justice system to the point they are unwilling to act against a prominent republican in good standing with the party.
