So, the LP cover shot is just about perfect.

But, as you'd expect, he's got something clever and tuneful to say about it, and he's surrounded himself with great players. Add immaculate production and a great pressing...

Donald Fagen - The Nightfly

When this came out in 1982, I wasn't quite sure what to expect - Fagen without Becker?

But, as we all know now, it was what you'd expect: a significantly jazzier and less cynical version of that music; almost a yearning for Fagen's youth.

Anyway, played beautifully as you'd expect, with great songs. My old Japanese pressing is on the treble-y side, but super quiet.

"Deacon Blues" is a song written by #WalterBecker and #DonaldFagen in 1976 and recorded by their group #SteelyDan on their 1977 album #Aja. It peaked at number 19 on the Billboard charts and number 17 on the U.S. #CashBox Top 100 in June 1978. It also reached #40 on the Easy Listening chart. In Canada, it peaked at #14, a position it occupied for two weeks, and #20 Adult Contemporary. In 2021.

"Josie" is a song written by #WalterBecker and #DonaldFagen and first released by #SteelyDan on their 1977 album #Aja. It was also released as the third single from the album and performed modestly well, reaching #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #44 on the #EasyListening chart that year. It has appeared on several Steely Dan #live and #compilationAlbums.

@jadevol I think Michael and Carolyn Leonhart were in the 2016 band. I'm a fan of Michael since he co-produced the #DonaldFagen solo album, Sunken Condos--just killer. I agree, never a bad show.

Ep 3 of the #1619Project covers the birth of American music and it's a mindblower. The intro talks about the Black roots of yacht rock. If possible the episode deepened my appreciation of #SteelyDan who featured several legendary Black musicians. Well...darn, I must not be a very good "danfan" since I didn't know that Donald Fagen released two new live albums at the end of last year...one of them is a live version of "The Nightfly", one of his solo albums and the other is called "Northeast Corridor: Steely Dan Live with the same band that he has toured with since I saw them for the first time in 2000...so it looks like I'm spending 25 bucks here in the near future...
