Today (21st February) in 2018, we lost one of our best comedy actresses, Emma Chambers. You will probably best remember her as Alice Horton nee Tinker, from the brilliant TV series the Vicar of Dibley, where she played a supporting role to Dawn French, aka Rev. Geraldine Granger. The clip attached shows Dawn French’s emotional tribute to Emma.

Famous Doncastrian: Ray Eden
Ray Eden won the RTTC National 100-mile Championship in 1995 at his second attempt, and represented Great Britain four times in stage racing, including the Irish Ras stage race in which he won a stage and the points jersey.
He died after suffering head injuries in an incident near his home in Scawthorpe on 18 March 2011 and died three days later in Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
He worked for local bike and component maker Planet X from Rotherham. #doncaster #history

James Springfield Jnr. Was born in 1893, Swinton. He was the son of James Snr. And Eliza Springfield. On the 1911 census James Jnr lived with his parents and siblings Altha, Cecilia, and Edna. Famous Doncastrian: Brian Shenton
Brian Shenton (15 March 1927–9 May 1987) was a sprinter born in Doncaster and a fully-fledged member of the Doncaster Plant Works Athletic Club. Brian won the gold medal at the 1950 European Athletics also represented GB in the men's 200 metres and men's 4x100 metres relay at the 1952 and 1956 Summer Olympics. He became Chairman of Noble Lowndes. He died in a car crash soon after retirement. #doncaster #genealogy #history
