Just had lunch at a nice, busy place in Midtown NY. When I asked the waiter how his day was going he stared at me gobsmacked and let me know I was the first person in 3 years who had ever asked him that on the job.

Be nice to your service industry folks people. They sure as hell earn it.

Today is Lee Jackson Day. A day that state employees and students in certain counties of Virginia had off for many years as a response to MLK Weekend. It used to be a four day weekend for me until middle school. Thankfully, VA got their heads right. My County converted several of the more problematic old holidays into 4 personal days that you can take whenever you want.
