Brougham Hall near Penrith has in my opinion one of the finest 12th Century door knockers,. Originally cast in bronze it would have had a similar verdigris patina as this exact replica from 1977. It takes pride of place on the large oak studded and vaulted doorway. The lions head has a sun ray effect to the mane and a mouth with sharp pointy teeth holds the ring. Large hollow staring empty eyes make it slightly menacing #doorsofmastodon #doorknockers #history
