Now that the TopSpeed TechKit with its #assembler is out in the world, I'm considering porting the #TASM and #MASM code in one or two of the open source #EPOC16 apps over to TSASM.

Hardly an urgent project, but it would mean that the apps could be built with one #compiler ecosystem with a single project file.

Of course, the code would still be restricted to the #16bit world, but it's no worse off than we already are in #Psion land.

I'm going to make a video about how to install the SIBO C SDK in #DOSBox, so that people can compile apps for #EPOC16 computers (Series 3/3a/3c/3mx, Siena, Workabout, MC range).

If you are one of the tiny number of people who might be interested in using this, which modern OS do you use?

I want to know so that I can tailor the tutorial.

Where do you store your mounted drives?

Is there a universally accepted place?

For example, on Linux I have ~/dosbox, in which I have sibo-c and sibo-m folders, which are mounted as C: and M: in DOSBox. I also have a P: drive mapped to ~/psion containing projects.

For Windows, would you put them in c:\users\username\dosbox?

I want to make a video for using the Psion SIBO C SDK, and I want to stick to conventions where possible.

Still don't know if this works on real hardware, but at the very worst, the Steam and itch.io releases will have built-in with controller support thanks to #DOSBox!

While I'm at it with #DOSBox, is there a way of making a folder or drive non-persistent?

Basically, I want the SDK to be as untouched as possible by a DOSBox session. There is no way to avoid the SDK creating files inside the \SIBOSDK folder, but existing files shouldn't be changed, and the files created could happily be lost when the session is closed.

Again, I'm thinking scripts, batch files, or Go (easily ported).

Or some sort of weird concoction using OverlayFS?

I'd like to have an easy way to switch between versions of the SIBO (EPOC16) C SDK. Strictly speaking, I have four versions: 2.00, 2.10, 2.20 and my lightly modified/fixed 2.20 (2.21?).

For me, I can just run `ln -s SIBOSDK.220 SIBOSDK` to swap in Linux. But that might not be the best option for every Linux (or *NIX/macOS) user, and wouldn't work at all for Windows.

Can anyone think of a better way? Script/batch file? Separate #DOSBox configs?

Think I've found a bug in @DOSBox_Staging that isn't in vanilla #DOSBox.

When compiling using TopSpeed C, TSC.EXE will sometimes lock when starting a new task within a project. It doesn't do this when using TSCX.EXE, which uses extended memory instead of conventional memory.

I can replicate it, but it's using someone else's source code that isn't public yet, so I can't submit a bug just yet. Once I can replicate it with a different project, I'll log it.

So y'all playing DOS Games on the #SteamDeck using #DosBox so I tried, too. After all, that backuped folder with DOS games including my old savegames (yeah, DOS games with savegames!) is good for something. Except... sound does not work correctly for any of the games and most of them crash or freeze. Sometimes controls don't work. The versions from dosgamesarchive.com also do not work out of the box (pun not intended) and honestly... I like tinkering but not for games as old as me. #Emulation

@gaprogman As the author of CBAE also notes:

While CHD can also produce quite small files, it doesn't offer lossy CD audio track compression (it stores them as FLAC, and if your game has many tracks it leaves a lot of gains on the table)

Also the software you're using needs to support CHD images — #DOSBox Staging does not, while DuckStation and PCSX2 do

When faced with these types of constraints you might wanna use CBAE instead to achieve similar space savings

@sazy @Zettl_Josef @Ralfeek tiež som začínal na DOSe, k Windows 3.1 na 7 disketách som sa dostal až pár mesiacov potom. Do dnes som za to ale fakt rád, dokážem bez nejakého front endu nastavovať a hrať DOSové hry v DOSBoxe, nepotrebujem to mať predžuvané v nejakom balíku z GOGu :)
