The term seems misleading and is possibly contributing to the double empathy problem on a conceptual level. As the other side of the spectrum is called , the logical inverse should be . Which actually appears to make a lot of sense considering how most societies are working, like people following mainstream in troves, worrying about other peoples opinions, worshipping the same celebrities without critical thinking and the like.

@SingingNala

thank you! Nice find!

'"The emphasis is purely on the autistic person to change, a lot of the time,” Milton says....
...the double empathy problem underscores the importance of training programs — say, for doctors or law enforcement professionals — that help non-autistic people interact appropriately with autistic people."

Afternoon (or tzag) fedifolk! 😊

I’m very excited to be taking part in the Diversity in Social Intelligence Replication project, following up on important work by Catherine Crompton on autistic–allistic communication

@Saraheboon @transponderings I’m not sure where to start, so I’m hesitant to respond at all 😉

• Young white cis boy stereotype
• Only listening to parents (because we don’t grow up, of course) …
• … and also to allistic ‘experts’, like Simon ‘extreme male brain’ Baron-Cohen
• Talk about ‘risk’ of autism, prevention, cure, treatment
• Not listening to non-speakers
• Deficit talk, complete ignorance of the double empathy problem
• Person-first language and euphemisms
• Downplaying our identity (‘you don’t seem autistic’)
• Dismissal of our needs (‘we’re all a little bit on the spectrum’)

I could probably go on, but I’ll leave some for others 😊
