Fascism is just the way empires treat their client states, only turned inward against their own people.
The war always comes home. New vehicles, surveillance tech, crowd control, psyops, trialed in combat.
Then deployed down the street.
What has always been happening to racial minorities, gender minorities, neuro minorities, and the poors, has now begun happening to nice straight white neurotypical folks.
Welcome to our world. How do you like us now?

@jonaskunst Really interesting! Reminds me a bit of Bai et al.'s (2022) recent work showing that supervisors who bully their subordinates create a culture of bullying in their organisation. Workers then learn to harass and ostracise other workers based on their supervisor’s behaviour. Different process, same outcome!

Autistic discussion threads been talking about masking since long before Covid.
For non-autistics, or at least non-autistic women, one way to understand masking is, it's the effort you go to to safely conduct yourself around your abusive boyfriend or boss.
Except for autistics, the whole world is our abusive boyfriend ... and boss.
Capitalism now has become ... everybody's abusive boyfriend, and boss.
Putting the same masking dynamics into play, in jobs and in homes, everywhere.
Beginning to round out the autism threads now, bringing them back home as to why this all belongs on Global Dark Theme.

Spoiler: none of this, it turns out, has anything to do with autism.
It has everything to do with trauma.
An experience not at all limited to autistics.

The contagious effects of dehumanization in organizations: "Supervisors who feel dehumanized by their organization displace their aggression toward their subordinates. These subordinates, in turn, displace their own aggression toward their family."
Remember, I misdirected (more benignly!) for decades without even realizing. That didn't keep me from becoming very, very skilled.
So do not get hung up over the question, "Do members of the media consciously realize what they're doing?"
Doesn't matter. The beat goes on, even after you do wake up.
I still mask, even knowing it's a trauma response.
It's a matter of survival, yea unto the moment you become too burnt out to be employable.
True for members of the media, also.
