#DragonEyes, my bi weekly online 5e #Spelljammer #Homebrew continues apace, after shenanigans in the outer system (the #FalseHydra had them running scared for a few sessions, but they handled it), the party has been framed for a Freeholder massacre & declared outlaws- they are off to beg mercy from a (recently deposed) pirate queen, which should be just all kinds of fun. I just may pass on making the suns go nova in the background of all this, but we’ll see.

I have been remiss, but the last two sessions of #DragonEyes really didn’t work out that much. Lack of preparation on my part, and my curse of being able to put settings together much easier than scenes. My players love the scenery, but they deserve better. Coming up, ghosts from the past, impending doom, and a faint sparkle of hope.
#Spelljammer #SessionReport for #DragonEyes Session 8. Party took a tribe of dippers (very thinly skinned Ewoks) back home- they messed around the ship some, but I couldn’t drum up mechanics, so it was mainly character exposition. Home is a vast greenworld that’s where I used the Wildsea stuff, alongside outlaw communities, frontier marshals, & a few character mysteries. It fills out well when the chars work with me, but man, it was a lot of exposition. Much fighty fighty is due.

And as I cast about for a rich, decadent redoubt to put up in space for #DragonEyes, I remembered another fine non OGL RPG that may be just the trick- Rowan, Rook & Card’s Spire: The City Must Fall. Dark fantasy infused technopunk where the setting is a prime character. It will take some polishing but it has potential: https://rowanrookanddecard.com/product/spire-rpg/
The best part about my #Spelljammer #DragonEyes campaign going to a liveworld is that I can break out these bad boys, ganked from Mythopoeia’s wonderful #Wildsea RPG- which not #5e based, but is a wonderful game in itself and extremely evocative for #Worldbuilding.

Session 7 of #DragonEyes went well enough, my ship to ship was entirely too unfocused, but they used it to escape via a slingshot manevour, and they managed to clear out the Goblin / Ewoks without killing any of the cuties. Now, its off to the Green, my local garden world for excitement and adventure… I’ll do some run tests with my #Spelljammer combat rules, and if they are too crunchy, we’ll just handwave from now on.
Tomorrow, the sadly delayed #DragonEyes #Spelljammer Session 7. Party has stopped a #FarRealm incursion, and are on their way back. Start with an in-flight pirate raid, and then it’s :
- Deliver a princess to her wedding (very much TOS, i know, i know)
- Take the geomancer home (which is infested with snarky Ewok skinned goblins led by dohwar, currently trying to steal everything thats not nailed down). Pigs… In… Space…
- And…

Scotched my Giants session due to scheduling issues. Next comes #DragonEyes, but it’s a long gap between, alas

Been wrassling through another stone (sigh), so meantime: #DragonEyes started 4 years ago, got sorted out in an iThoughts #MindMap, and i’ve been codifying it in Notion. Once the group bought my premise, and i found how thin the 5e SJ ruleset was, I chewed my way though the #2ndEd SJ rules to adjust timescales, damage, and chop the super crunchy bits out, and came up with this:

My #SessionReport for my #DragonEyes #Spelljammer Campaign, Session 5:
Of six players, 1 was away & another is on hiatus. After a quiet rest on the ship (I got after them to not overthink the location last session so forgone the overnight attack), they set off to find the central lab & rescue the trapped lead. It was slow & mean, for bad rolls & bad stealth, but they made it to the lab, kiboshed the big bad & closed the gate. Rescaling on the fly isn’t my forte, but it worked.

Doing much better, which is good- had to cancel the last #DragonEyes session because of transit issues. Any longer between sessions and I’ll forget what trouble they are up in/to….
In #2ndEditon days, I had no luck getting a #Spelljammer game off the ground; my players turned the Dragonfly they found into an express shipping service. I’ve percolated on #DragonEyes for years: a dwarvish colony & their allies mine a priceless treasure from a dead world, while trapped within a #CrystalSphere with numerous factions & foes. The party won a ship in a lottery- now they just need to keep it.
The 5e release was enough to get my players interested, and so we took to the stars….

Table-wise, I have two #VTT #Roll20 games that alternate on Wednesdays; my #NextRPGOnDeck is the 6th session of my homebrew #5thEdition #SpellJammer campaign #DragonEyes. The party is on a rescue mission to a research facility where something Very Bad happened, & are desperately racing to prevent an impending incursion from the #FarRealm. It should be just all kinds of fun.
