We have dragonflies in the new garden! That’s very exciting.
Dragonflies are one of nature’s best hunters, catching around 90% of their prey.
I will enjoy watching them. This one let me get very close. 1st image is 1x zoom, second one is 5x digital zoom.
Maybe I’ll get my macro lens out & try and get some decent shots.

A Mangrove Marshal (Pornothemis starrei) spotted at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Singapore, on 3 Sept 2023. Nice to be able to spot this rare dragonfly.
The IUCN Red List Conservation Status says it is near threatened (NT). Its larva breed in very saline conditions, which is unusual for dragonflies.

On the island of Cheongsan in South Korea I went to look for #dragonflies in the UN FAO designated GIAHS of traditional rice terraces. I found the #blaupfiel #KeeledSkimmer , which I also saw this summer in #SchlieswigHolstein . I am researching for a new series of #art works that explore #migration #belonging #landscape #biodiversity and #ClimateChange and it is a visceral type of learning about these topics to observe these same dragonflies in such distant locations.
