Sometimes I think to myself: What if it's all fake? What if it's wrong to believe that I'm a dragon, something that doesn't exist here? What if I'm an earthen animal, one that you can see here, one that you're sure exists?

But then I think about those humans who believe in their god. They are so certain that there is this entity. They believe in him, and maybe because of *how long* they believe in him already. It's part of history.
Like with dragons. Each region has their version of a dragon, but they are always the same; serpent-like creatures with scales and (sometimes) wings. And it's not like, they copied this creature and made their own. No. It all happened independently. Dragons are part of history as well, they are part of this planet even if nobody has ever seen one. I am an earthen animal, like cats, bears, fish and insects too. I am real

Modern Draconity Zine now accepting submissions!

Draconity isn’t solely from ages past, but something that still burns bright in the modern age. This zine will be a collection of pieces created by nonhumans and alterhumans about what it means to be draconic in the present day (or even future). Both fiction and nonfiction pieces will be accepted. As long as what you have in mind fits the theme, it’ll probably be a-ok. Off the top of our head, we’re thinking of essays, short stories, poetry, mock advice columns, alternative covers, fictional advertisements, comics or recipes.

Also, this zine would impose no set definition on what is or isn’t “dragon enough.” If you feel like the label applies, we want to hear from you!

10 years ago today, I had an experience that led me to accept that I am dragonkin. While the firey intensity of my feelings has simmered down somewhat in the intervening years, the conviction has never wavered, and I have enjoyed being able to stretch my mental wings ever since. Because of dragons, I have always treasured my time online, where I can let the real me show through most clearly. I have made some amazing friendships that have lasted far longer than most of my in-person relationships. I have enjoyed bearing my soul, wings and all, to trusted individuals who would be able to value seeing the real me. I have commissioned and gathered art, giving space to visually express the yearnings I feel. With time, I have overcome my own barriers and started to allow my dragon side to show through more in real life as well. I am proud of who I am, both dragon and human. Here's to another 10 years and beyond of continuing to be crazily obsessed with dragons!
