#Draisine, ca. 1818.

Invented by Karl Drais (1785-1851) in 1817, this was an early forerunner of #bicycles. With no pedals, riders propelled themselves by walking, running, or kicking.

The draisine quickly became a #fad, but generally poor road conditions limited its usefulness, and the fad died out after a few years — not until the 1860s did similar #vehicles became popular again.
