My suuuuper cheap shared hosting on a machine at #Dreamhost has been down for at least a few hours now, unfortunately. Kinda wild how much I take for granted that this account that I've had for the majority of my life will always work
Does #Dreamhost really have mod_security configured to return a *418 I'm a Teapot* response for matching requests?!
I miss the days of their seeming technical ability and silly newsletters (I guess I'm thinking c.2006?).
Don't panic!
LezWatch.TV MIGHT go down for an hour or so today while the server robots are running upgrades and fixing a security issue.
All is well, this is expected! Thanks to #DreamHost for the ongoing amazing support and care! - M
#Dreamhost ISP is having a big multi-tenant database failure on the east coast and it doesn’t seem to be going well.
My sites are half up with missing views and falling queries. The status page still says everything is green across the board.
Okay, so anyone know a good tool for importing your #twitter archive to #Wordpress via the #wordpresss #xmlrpc or #REST api? I loved the idea of @shawnhooper's tool, but putting on #DreamHost & running it via command line times out cos my archive is too big and the format is not great for me. (haven't found a good theme that will format tweets)
I would love a tool that allows me to run it remotely from terminal in my macos with my data local and feeds it into a remote wordpress installation.

Pretty odd that #Dreamhost is going to start charging extra this month if you don't upgrade past PHP 7.4, when the latest WordPress 6.2 (probably the main thing people use Dreamhost for) still only has beta support for anything higher. Upgrading to PHP 8.0 totally breaks my WP 6.2 (more likely its plugins).
@The_KamikaZEN have you contacted #DreamHost support at all. Do they support a `.htaccess` file in the `.well-known` directory? What web server software are they using? #Nginx #Apache #LiteSpeed #OpenLiteSpeed If they have have any special server rules/restrictions setup for that path that might be the problem. This is unfortunately one of the reasons why getting the #ActivityPub plugin working on all #WordPress sites is such a challenge. This needs hosting provider support.

Do any of my blind followers know anything about #dreamhost where it relates to screen reader #accessibility? My company uses it and I've been tasked to set up a few things. Any gotchas I need to be on the lookout for?
Does anyone know if it is possible to host a #PixelFed instance on #Dreamhost?
I run a non-profit website hosted by DreamHost.com. They are terrific when I can’t wade through my Wordpress problems. Thanks #Dreamhost!
It's really a statement on the state of #Dreamhost when their status page's certificate expires. Glad I moved away from them years ago.
Well I finally got it working hopefully for the long term. I have #iSpy setup to connect to a local #FileZilla FTP server. Then I'm using #2BrightSparks #SyncBack Pro to backup the local FTP server folder to my #DreamHost VPS every few minutes. It's a horrible cludge job but it appears to be stable and so far the ISP and VPS provider are happy. 😵

Ugh I've gotta figure out how to make my old copy of iSpy #NVR play nice with my parents ISP, Ponderosa Telephone. Their support person won't respond to my emails about why they're blocking port 22 to my #VPN with #DreamHost after years of letting me have a bunch of concurrent #SFTP connections to the same IP address. Every ~24 hours the block resets and it works for ~10 minutes before getting blocked again.
Are there any modern Wordpress themes that are just simple BLOG themes anymore?
Thanks to #Dreamhost unceremoniously upgrading my blog from PHP7.4 to PHP8 (without asking and without the ability to revert), I now have a broken website w/ an incompatible theme, and I'm lost in a sea of "business themes" that look stupid and scammy
Hmm can't access port 22 from my parents house to my VPS with #DreamHost. Dream Host doesn't see anything on their end. I've tried from a few different machines at my parents place, different software, etc. It works when I use a different ISP. I'm guessing it might be #PonderosaTelephone blocking the port. But only that port. I can still access http/https just fine to the VPS.
I've got an #iSpy setup that uploads several still images every few minutes.

The #terraform was the easy bit so that's been done for a while, but I'm almost done with the #ansible work to fully automate the configuration of mastodon. The terraform bits deploy into #dreamhost DreamCompute but could be adapted to most cloud platforms. Once I've got it fully tested, I'll post a link to the Ansible Galaxy project. Hopefully with that and some solid documentation that should remove some of the technical hurdles to folks running their own instances if they so choose to do so.

@oowm @kona I would love to see something like a #DreamHost 1-click install the way they do it with Wordpress.
forgot to mention. Turns out, the logs were broken on @bedbathandthebeyond so i have no clue how many of you visited it. 🤷♀️
fortunately, a painless chat with #DreamHost once again solved the problem, and once again raised more questions. In this case "well how the eff did that directory get deleted? and Shouldn't that be concerning?"
Helper person was nice, as always, and competent, as (surprisingly) always.
So I signed up for VPS hosting at #DreamHost on cyber Monday. The domain I registered was the form xyz.blog.
I’m wondering if it is possible to have my #WordPress support something like computers.xyz.blog, gaming.xyz.blog, and woodworking.xyz.blog and have a single WP instance serve each based on corresponding categories of the posts? Or would that require multiple WP installs?
One of the reasons I have stuck with #Dreamhost for so many years is that they were SPECTACULAR about transparency when something went wrong. At their scale something going wrong is inevitable.
But, I gotta say i am _very_ disappointed in the handling of the current outage. Yes, they've noted that there is one. But that's IT.
