Setting up a still life to reference a passing incident in "Nefertiti Lived Here"....

More Marginalia!
Some of my old ideas for the faience necklace, done in watercolour..

Charlemagne is credited with saying that learning another language gives you another soul.
It gives access to other swearwords, too.
I've just discovered, while mounting it, that Loading The Felucca is no longer visibly signed.
My emotions are best expressed, as someone once said, by a string of symbols from the top row of the keyboard!

I may be getting to grips with curved needles, but the angle I'm having to lean over my work is Not Good for my back. This piece of mounting is not going to be a "one and done".
But it is going to look good, so there's that..

So I've got the cushion for the coiled put done, but now I wonder, should I stain the wooden base before varnishing it?

Maybe I need to do a little more - #HittiteAmulet seems to be wearing shades!

@Jen It has been twenty years of embroidery, inspired by "Nefertiti Lived Here", by Mary Chubb, exploring stories about the ancient Egyptians of Amarna, and the modern people, Egyptian and European, who were involved in excavating.
I'd really like to hold an exhibition, preferably somewhere with a connection to Mary's employer, the Egypt Exploration Society.
I'm also going to need a better name. I've been calling it #DreamsOfAmarna, but that seems a bit weak!
Another of the #EgyptianMarginalia for #WorldWatercolourMonth.

This is also from a photo I took at "Tutankhamen: His Tomb and Treasures" some years ago. I had to stand to one side so my reflection didn't confuse the picture, so it's slightly skewed. But this shows what practice will do - a year ago, I wouldn't have attempted something like this!
I've used a bit of body colour so the light blue and light red are closer to right, but I tried to reserve white paper for highlights.

And to remind you what I did in combining the inspiration of the Boundary Stele and Tutankhamen's chair, here is the Amarna Royal Family.
I am still really pleased with this one!

I took the photo I painted this from at the exhibition "Tutankhamen: His Tomb and Treasures", some years ago, and it formed part of the inspiration for my lockdown project, #AmarnaRoyalFamily .

Two bracelets inspired by ancient Egyptian ones. This is a sneak peak at some of the painting I'm doing as marginalia for the book I plan to do about the Dreams of Amarna embroideries.

I have a challenge before me. The main Amarna pieces consist of two large panels, colour-blocked and "spotted" with embroideries representing stories, finds or people from the book "Nefertiti Lived Here". This will have overlays of gauze showing the heads of Akhenaten and Nefertiti, but importantly, I want the overlays not to touch the embroidery, and to be removable.
So how can I attach the overlays? Or how can I mount them (as unobtrusively as possible, not with a great heavy frame) so that they are easy for the viewer to "open" away, or haul out of the way, or something?
Ideas? Advice? Engineering suggestions?

This time, #LoadingTheFelucca against copper or brown. I'm not convinced by either of these...
Thoughts, anyone?
#mountingmywork #designersdilemma #dreamsofamarna #loadingthefelucca
I am planning to mount "Loading The Felucca" on a fabric covered frame, like everything else, but I have to decide what colour. The ones I've used so far have been these two, plus Nefertiti's cloth of gold, which is clearly unsuitable because the colours wouldn't work against it.
So, does anyone have a suggestion? Dark blue or burgundy? Or something else entirely...?

I'm trying to stitch the velvet to the vilene so I can cut off all the build up of fabric, and maybe succeed in making this idea work!

Rejoice, rejoice!
Violets now cascading over the edge of the pot! There are a lot of stitches holding them down so that they cling and follow the shape, and I do think it works.
