That would, again, be #DresdenFiles by @evilhat .

Why? Because it beautifully captures the spirit of the books by Jim Butcher.

Because it even integrates Harry Dresden's roleplaying-game-sessions mentioned in the books diegetically.

Because the art from the comic illustrates the book in a way that I feel "this is Harry's world".

And I have talked about Fate as a system elsewhere.

What #ttrpg will I still play in twenty years?

Oh, interesting question. To most questions I had a quick or semi-quick answer. This, not so much.

I haven't played #dasschwarzeauge in several years now. I have played #dresdenfiles for 10 years. But I don't think it will stick around another ten.

#Fate, though, will probably stay. Though I hope that #rpg will develop their features and mechanics more. Maybe we'll play #Rollenspiel entirely different in twenty years.

Old game you still play

Hmm, I don't want to repeat myself too much here, but I'm still playing the #DresdenFiles game by @evilhat though there has been a new rules edition and the simpler #dresdenfilesaccelerated came out.

The reason is probably that for a campaign, #FateAccelerated is not deep enough for me.

Also still playing #dsa 4th edition.

Your favourite character.

I'd go with Maximilian Frey, police officer and budding father, who took up a Denarian coin to save his wife and unborn child from red court vampires in #DresdenFiles from @evilhat.
Max paid dearly for that, of course. He managed to save his wife and child, but she left him because she couldn't live with what he'd done.

I considered playing him as a lesbian woman, but that didn't quite work out for me.

Oh hey, the 2nd book in #JimButcher's Cinder Spires series comes out in a couple months? Interesting! I vaguely recall enjoying the first one.

(Plus, it presumably won't have the amount of, er, baggage that the #DresdenFiles have at this point).

I love that GenCon is continuing its online play every year. I ran a Fate / Dresden Files game in person (2014) and I've run a few CoC convention games. Running strangers in a game can present a unique challenge, but I think I'm going to try running a GenCon online game next year.

What are some good #substack feeds to follow? I enjoy technology, specifically #windows and #vmware sysadmin stuff, #powershell is a favorite of mine. I listen to #WindowsWeekly and #ThisWeekInTech every week. I like fiction, specifically fantasy like #dresdenfiles, #dragonlance, #abhorsen.

For me, it’s a urban fantasy game of hubris, identity, and (sur)reality.

It largely uses #MageTheAwakening 2e’s system but with influences from #magetheascension #UnknownArmies and #dresdenfiles

The setting is also an unholy mash up of all the above, taking place in Portland.

I think some onus should be put on the audience to know the background material in a long-running series.

I love the #dresdenfiles novels. But the author has tried to make the currently 17-book long main series accessible from anywhere. While this is great for new readers, for fans, it means that each new entry is frontloaded with exposition and unnatural conversations between characters where they repeat well understood information at each other. And then again whenever an old character is reintroduced.

I'm left wondering "who are they having these conversations for?" And the answer is: the new reader.

Again, just a minor gripe about a series that i absolutely love and highly recommend.
