I’ve been rationing #sewing time lately (#CFS is a bitch), but the last couple of weekends I’ve been making slow progress on a second version of the modal jersey wrap dress. This time it’s in this super-fine, Italian, houndstooth, shirt-weight wool.

I’ve redrafted the sleeves a bit to work better with the minimal-stretch fabric, and taken quite a lot more care with the gathers at the sleeve head. #WeekendSewingClub #craft #maker #dressmaking

Working on a 1920s dress as a costume for my drama group, and running into so many difficulties already!

It doesn't need to be 100% accurate, but I'm still a beginner at #dressmaking, so it's proving tricky.

It's for a film my drama group are making; the plot is hilarious but I'm not entirely sure if the final product will live up to expectations...

@sewing I think I am finally happy with the fit of this top pattern. I created a one piece neck and armhole facing to replace the binding. I'm not sure I am happy with that, but it will take a test drive to see if it lays right and stays all day. Then, it will be assembly line time!

#improvised quilt, some #cotton from stash (Eiffel Towers #fabric #whatwereyouthinking 😂) but mostly #scraps from various #dressmaking projects. Backed with #fleece because that's what I do. #QAYG in 5 or 6 pieces then joined with #sashing at front and back. No idea about finished size but same as an older quilt big enough to go over two dog beds.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my #WeekendSewingClub crisis, and talked me down from making a dress I *might* have loved but would probably hate. Instead I used just the lead grey modal interlock to make a predictably likeable wrap dress. I took out some flounces at the wrists (I hate flappy things near my hands), and the grey shirting knocks back the femininity just the right amount for me. Also love the line around the neck/shoulders. Pleased with this. #sewing #dressmaking #maker #craft

I'm a creative person who's into drawing and painting and all kinds of paper and textile #crafts, mainly #sewing. I love history and the detective work of research; I'm also interested in historical sewing.

I love #books and am an avid reader, my preferred genres are historical fiction, mystery, sci-fi and fantasy, also a little horror (ghost stories). Currently reading Star Trek TNG novels.

I enjoy baking and eating cake, occasionally. Last but not least, I like #nature, wildflowers and herbs, bees, rainy days and autumn, being at home and having tea.

I live with a black #rabbit named Marigold. She's a rescue and needs medical treatment due to her former living conditions, but is a happy and very affectionate bun. I post about her, her healing progress, and her shenanigans. 🐇

#WeekendSewingClub decisions are that much harder in combination with #cfs… I really don’t have free time or energy to waste on misfires. This fabric is too nice to throw away on a bad choice too.

So please be free with your opinions on this vogue 1720 dress.

It’s interesting, and the low-stretch modal knit shirting I’ve got for it would be easy-wear and easy-care…

But I am I going to love wearing it, or feel like a sack of spuds in a night-dress?

TFW you find a dress that seems to tick all the boxes, but when you get it to the fitting room it just does you no favours at all… except instead of ‘finding’ it, you just spent two days making it. 🙄

Oh well… you win some, you lose some. At least it should be relatively easy for a charity shop to rehome.

#WeekendSewingClub finale… oh, alright, I like it more than I expected. A few harder-edged accessories and I’ll even probably wear it.

Really impressed myself with the fitting of the wrap-front. That’s the first time I’ve managed one with no trace of gaping (stay-stitching is a revelation)

Also, the inside is almost better than the outside… my grandma would’ve approved!

I'm watching this very good video on dart manipulation, and I'm like, I think I can do that. Then I realized that I pick busy ass fabrics because, I in fact can't do that, and the prints hide my mistakes.

At least the prints are pretty. This one just has regular darts, but if there's anything wrong with the dress, you'll never see it.

#WeekendSewingClub reality check… sometimes I’m just not feeling it. Sometimes I get part-way through a #sewing project and feel irrationally depressed about the whole thing, even when, on the surface, it looks like it’s working fine. So I give myself unconditional permission to cut my losses, regardless of the fabric and time/effort wasted. This is one of those occasions.
