Meet Daurlong Wangi a new dromaesaur (bird like dinosaur) who just got described, images are from the paper.
They found feathers (image d) and much stunning, preserves intestines from the Jehol Biota (plants and animals form northeastern China between 133-120 millions years ago).
Daurlong come from Early/Lower Cretaceous a period from 145-100,5 millions years ago, was found at the Pigeon Hill locality, Inner Mongolia (China).
Dromaesaurids are known to be small to mid-size theropod dinosaurs and they forage on fish, mammals and other dinosaurs.
It’s name is derived from the Daur Nation and the Chinese 龙 (long) for dragon.
What so special about it? Well it shows the 1st case of intestinal preservation in a theropod lineage very close to bird ancestry as it’s a non-avian dinosaurs. It’s really rare and give so much new informations.
I love so much soft tissue fossile :blobhaj_heart: and yes fossils aren’t only bones and teeth sometimes you can find soft tissue like here but it’s pretty rare. The most known case is collagen found on the fossilized leg of a Tyrannosaurus-Rex in 2005 by Mary Schweitzer.
