The #drought being experienced on #VancouverIsland is so outside the norm that extraordinary measures are being applied. In one case, they know that low water flows and very high temperatures cause water #oxygen levels to crash (hypoxia), so they are bubbling air into some of these river pools so the #salmon do not suffocate. The province has seen sustained higher-than-average temperatures and low rainfall this year, leading to B.C.’s worst wildfire season on record. Since April 1, more than 2,000 wildfires across the province have burned 2.2 million hectares, Ma said.”

Drought expanded to cover 36.02% of the continental US, an increase of 1.74 points on the US Drought Monitor. #Drought intensified in parts of the Southwest, central US and along the East Coast.
