As drystone wallers we are often inspired by traditional drystone structures.
This structure was inspired by a sheep stell and was added to a garden as a windbreak/seating area.
You may catch a glimpse of sheep stells as you drive through Scotland's countryside.
This build is 12m of continuously curved and sloping wall in a C-shape but stells come in all sorts of other shapes. L-shaped, T-shaped, X-shaped to name a few.

Between the seventeenth and nineteenth century #Catalunya experienced an enormous #agriculture boom in its hinterland. #Vineyards expanded massively with #wine and fortified wine becoming one of the main export to the New World. As work was no longer close to villages local farmers built dry stone shelters in which to store tools, take refuge during bad weather and home their animals. Some of these amazing #vernacular structures still survive and are now under protection. They vary from simple shelters to buildings with several rooms and fireplaces.

Poem of the Day
Dry Stone Wall Photographer
Oblong iPhone propped up
Windbreaker curve jutting
Up on the tops
Where the moor meets the countryside
The countdown has started
Cobbled back from the verge
You forget to smile
Without the Cheese prompt
Moss gathered
Mammoth tusk
Missing fencepost
Maybe Tuesday
You crop the best image
Signal regained and sent
To your adoring contacts
The sunned wall smiling back
