Friday afternoon @canberradsn with Deep Space Station 43 #DSS43 #SpaceTrackin'📡
Deep Space Station 43 was transmitting to #Voyager2 this morning, as part of the process to re-establish contact with the spacecraft.
20 billion kms from Earth, the round-trip time for the radio signal will take nearly 37 hours to reach Voyager 2 and get home again. #DSS43 📡〰️🛰️

In 1⃣ day, Thursday, 13 April 2023, we mark the official opening of Deep Space Station 43📡
Opened by then Prime Minister, Gough Whitlam, #DSS43 ushered in a new age of space exploration for Australia and the world. After 50 years it remains at the forefront of science. #43at50
In 2️⃣ days, we mark 50 years of operations with our big antenna dish, Deep Space Station 43.📡 #43at50
From its first mission, Apollo 17 on the Moon, to the twin Voyager spacecraft now travelling through interstellar space, #DSS43 continues to play a vital role in space exploration.
In 3⃣ days, Deep Space Station 43 marks 50 years supporting both human and robotic missions exploring the Solar System and beyond.
#DSS43 started construction in October 1969. It was ready for operations in late 1972. Its first mission support was Apollo 17 in Dec.'72.🌖 #43at50
In 4️⃣ days, Deep Space Station 43 turns 50 and fabulous. 📡 🎉
It’s hard to appreciate the 70-metre antenna’s scale. Just to give you a hint, the central multi-cone structure alone, which houses the transmitters and receivers, is the height of a 5-storey building.
