Tonight in #genealogy (mostly just #DualCitizenship): Sent requests to USCIS and NARA for statements that an ancestor didn't naturalize. (He said he didn't on another doc the consulate wants, signed like a month before he died. But the consulate says they want explicit statements.) Also collecting docs (marriage cert, military records, census, and more) to request a delayed birth cert for an ancestor who was born 100 years ago (neither state nor county has it).

I need advice from someone who has experience with changing essential documents in the US & CAN at the same time.

The sooner, the better, because due to the developing situation surrounding trans peoples access to basic shit across multiple states (god forbid any of this shit goes federal...), I can't guarantee that I'll be able to do it in the place I need to do it in for very much longer.

Anyways, if I can't, then there's a very high chance I'll either be stuck with my deadname, or I'll have to renounce citizenship, which will cost a lot of money.

I don't really care about retaining US citizenship, and I'm starting to think that the latter is the easier path forwards. Anyone?

International document day! Got snailmail from Sora, FR, Italy, responding to a request for a 1910 atto di matrimonio for my wife's great-grandparents. I couldn't find that year Portale Antenati or FamilySearch, and my email to them bounced, so we sent a request by good ol' snailmail. Today we got the document we requested!

It's an estratto (extract), not a photocopy of the original doc, so it's not ideal for #genealogy, but it's perfect for #DualCitizenship!

While Japan is not alone in this restriction for high GDP countries and some countries that technically allow for dual citizenship make it impracticable for most purposes, Japan is unusual relative to its high GDP peers with representative governments.
