8/29 - Does your antagonist believe your hero has a chance of succeeding?

Not at all. Stephanus figures that if he brings the right pressure to bear, Drusilla will be made to forget all about Suetonius. Women in the ancient Roman world, after all, had very few rights of their own. Stephanus figures that Drusus will just handle everything, giving his daughter over in marriage to the fuller she can't stand.

— Aug. 28 — Who is the first character you created for this work?

I knew who Suetonius was long before I knew who anyone else was.

AD 79

Drusilla was the woman of his dreams. Suetonius swore his eternal devotion to the merchant's daughter.

A gladiator's word is his bond.

Present Day

Classics professor Damiano De Luca feels ridiculous in the gladiator costume he wears after losing a bet, and seeing Stephanie Marlowe waiting in line outside the Pompeii Archaeological Park makes him feel even worse. She's gorgeous … and looks so familiar. Without thinking, the handsome Italian addresses Stephanie in the old tongue: "Salve, Drusilla."

Her reply? "Salve, Thraex."

Through untold disaster in the recesses of time and up to the present day, Dom and Stephanie must discover the truth about Pompeii Fire.

Day 9 Does your MC have children? If not, do they want to?

For women of ancient Rome, like Drusilla, it's a given. There's an expectation that she will bring sons into the family. Whether she actually wants them is another story.

July 23: Secondary Character POV: have you ever wanted to slap the MC?

Raylene Thibodeaux: My friend Stephanie Marlowe just doesn't see her own worth. I had to push her to put in for the job that took her to Italy in the first place. I might not want to literally slap her, but I've used my words to do it.

Hi, everyone. In the run-up to release day for "Pompeii Fire," I'll be sharing some of facts from my research. This blog series in 2020 seems a great place to start. Enjoy!

It's actually happening! I'm in the preliminary phases for releasing "Pompeii Fire," after all of this time. I've got the weird formatting issues worked out, which is half the battle. I'm going to print a hard copy to read next week, both forwards and backwards, to pick up any last errors.

I promise, this long-awaited work will be ready for August 1 pre-order and August 24 release!

5. Has your MC ever been involved in a physical altercation? If so, why?

There's no doubt in my mind that Amos Boudreaux, attorney-at-law, has a brawl or two in his past.

Excerpt:

As they walked away, John said “I always hated that whole coon-ass side of the family.”

Amos turned on his heel.
“What did you say?”

“I said, I always hated that whole coon-ass side of the family. What do you plan to do about it?”

“If it were just the two of us, cousin, I would take you outside and beat you into the ground. However, we are in a public place, so I guess I’ll just have to remind you that your mother is part of that ‘coon-ass side of the family.’ And that maybe you should be just a little more respectful.”

“I meant every word I said.”

Amos was balling up his fists when Diana put her hand on his arm.
