Today, just four crops — wheat, rice, corn and soybeans — supply two-thirds of human calories. there might be a fifth: may become one of humanity’s first new major crops in more than a century, since soybeans introduced from China spread globally during the 1900s.

It contains the protein which can be formed into meat and dairy substitues. Exciting times for 😍 washingtonpost.com/climate-env

of the fediverse, I seek your wisdom of management.

Any organic suggestions for managing the growth of ? I'd rather use something that isn't going to damage the natural biodiversity of the pond. Before you ask, no, are not an option. Or moorhens. Or any kind of animal. 😁

Basically, it's a pond we have limited time to manage and, well, duckweed's gonna duckweed, so you look away for a week and wham, it's back again.

When you've studied it changes the world around you. Decades since my degree, but a quiet walk in the park brings up thoughts about mathematical models

/Lemna minuta/ has been taking over the slow moving Japanese garden and is so simple, you could use Conway's Game of Life to make a similar 'garden of Eden' green carpet pattern

A Ginkgo tree, living fossils that survived for 290,000,000 years, beautifully illustrates natural space-filling 3D branching
