It'will be much harder for the police & Dudley to nail the arsonists. Humiliating them into paying for a rebuild is going to be hard.
The problem doesn't stop there. Some of the Sydenham Greyhound walls were still standing. It was rebuilt as the solid pub it always was. How can you re-build the Crooked House after centuries moving by subsidence. You can't recreate that process. It would be just be a fake.
Plus no way would you get it through Building Regs!

I was part of the #savethegreyhound campaign led by the #SydenhamSociety. It succeeded the pub was rebuilt 'brick-by-brick' and is thriving today.
We didn't expect to win. We were lucky. Everybody knew the owners had demolished the pub illegally. The company directors were local and could be held to account. We had great local support and #Lewisham Council then had the will and the money to fight a long and difficult court case.

I frequented the Crooked House at Himley when living in Wordsley back in the '60s. Feeling drunk before the first drink!
Sad to see the iconic pub destroyed by arson. Disturbing the remains were demolished before a police investigation could complete gathering evidence. There is much than stinks.
