It was only the first League game of the season, but I must admit I was impressed with the way Dundee United played yesterday. 4 goals and a clean sheet away from home. I’m not going to get carried away, but it’s a very decent start to the campaign.

Dundee United dug out an unspectacular win in the #ViaPlayCup last night. We do seem to have a decent goalkeeper at last, but I’m not convinced that team is good enough to win promotion. Far too many players are unable to hit the target when they shoot, and the defence still isn’t strong. I hope I’m wrong, but the new signings haven’t impressed me so far.

For those who still hanker for a fully accessible 3rd Party app to useTwitter, the Spring app’s latest update has somehow managed to gain access to the bird site again. I don’t know how the developer does it, but it is working, and it is so nice to be able to navigate Twitter easily. I don’t spend a lot of time there, but a lot of posts about my football team still appear there, so I rely on it to keep up to date with team & fan news. #DUFC #Twitter #SpringApp
I was convinced as far back as October that Dundee United were going to be relegated. The brief upturn in results under Jim Goodwin gave me a little bit of hope that I was wrong, but normal service has been resumed, and now only a miracle can keep us up. The players simply aren’t good enough, so a major rebuild required. I hope Goodwin gets the job permanently, but we shall see.

I’m usually a pessimist, but I’m starting to think #DundeeUnited might actually escape the drop this season. 3 wins in a row have made that a genuine possibility. Main thing is the fight in the team which has been sadly lacking for most of the season. That gives us a chance of staying up. Jim Goodwin has certainly made a difference. I think he deserves the job permanently.

RT @SportsPeteO: Fulham have backed away from a move to sign Dundee United sensation Rory MacLeod. A deal was expected to be completed this summer, but the move is now off. #FFC #DUFC

OMG! #DUFC actually won a game at last. I did not see that one coming. Pretty solid defensively for most of the game, and really should have won more easily if our forward players could hit the target. I still think we’re going to be relegated, but we’re not entirley out of it yet.

Another inept defensive display from Dundee United yesterday. It will need a miracle to keep us up now. There was a bit more effort from the players, but that is the minimum fans should expect, and it counts for nothing if we’re going to gift goals to the opposition.

Tony Asghar has left Dundee United. That will please a lot of fans. Whether it allows time for a new Manager to turn things around is debatable, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
A lot of good people left the club as a direct result of Asghar’s management style, so this is a major event.

So #DUFC are now looking for their 3rd Head Coach this season. What a shambles the club is in. Whoever gets the job, I don’t think they will avoid relegation. I’ve seen relegation seasons before, & this one has the same feel. #SPFL #DundeeUnited
I know I’m a pessimist, but I’ve been following Dundee United for around 50 years. I’ve seen relegation seasons before and this one has the same feel. I’ve been saying since September that we are going down, and I’ve seen very little to persuade me I’m wrong. I hope I am, but we need a lot more from the players & management.

The things football fans do. I have a car journey of over an hour, then need to walk without a sighted guide to get to the ground. And we’re playing Celtic who are likely to thump us before I face the return journey. But if you support your club, you support them all the time, not just when they are doing well. I could save a lot of hassle by staying at home and listening to match commentary, but it’s not the same as being there.
Lots of Dundee United fans are very angry at the late call-off of the game In Livingston. For me, the only surprise is that the plastic pitch was declared playable earlier in the day. I’m in Livingston, and the ground is frozen & treacherous underfoot. There was no way that pitch would be playable. Plastic pitches should not be allowed in the top league.
I expect most Dundee United fans will be as gutted as I am over losing yet another late goal. I thought we had done enough to win that game yesterday. 3 points would have given a bit of breathing space, but now there’s a lot of pressure on the midweek game against Livingston.
The joys of football!
For the first time this season, I’m starting to think #DUFC might actually have a chance of avoiding relegation. A long way to go, but performances & results since the World Cup have been better than before. Fingers crossed it continues.
It’s a crunch game at Tannadice this evening. #DUFC need to win just to stay in touch and not be cast adrift at the foot of the table. I can’t get to the game, but I’ll tune in and listen to the club commentary. Can’t say I’m overly confident. You never know which United team is going to turn up. More often than not, it’s the poor one.
I like the concept of VAR, but if it’s going to take 5 minutes to decide whether a penalty should be given, then any error on the ref’s part isn’t clear and obvious. I suppose officials will claim they need to reach the right decision, but there is still dispute even after VAR on occasion. If they can’t spot an error quickly then go with the Ref’s decision.
