The reviewer assumes that #DungeonWorld helped #ApocalypseWorld / #PbtA to break through. #DW was already too #DnD for me back then, we enjoyed #tremlus more. As well, #FantasyWorld, another #Fantasy #PbtA #ttrpg should also follow the #DnD - tradition, but offer its own, interesting approaches. Group themes (quests vs coins etc.) , more deadly/consequential battles I find interesting, maybe another good source of ideas. #Stonetop remains my favourite #PbtA #fantasy game.

It's a fun and accessible game that presents D&D-style heroic adventure gaming in a #PbtA and #StoryGame context.

But it's a 1st-generation PbtA game and very clunky in places. There is so much new game tech since developed that would greatly improve play. A new edition could fix the colonialism and racial essentialism that was baked in with its #DnD DNA. A potential DW2e could also be divorced from its problematic co-author.

Today's #DungeonWorld #TTRPG session at the local game store went well. Had a new player (to DW and the group) join in, who seemed to enjoy the game.
I used some location renders that I made and printed last night. One was made in #TaleSpire, and the other in #Blender3D using a lowpoly asset pack.

This was all in session 1. I began the session with the question "you are all on a cart to the village of Brambletree—why are you going there?"

I didn't prep why they were going to the village. Questions asked to the players lead to an entire ordeal that completely shadowed and was much more rich than the one problem I prepped for the village to kick things off.

It's one of my most favorite GM moments in hindsight.

One of my favorite instances of "draw maps, leave blanks" of Dungeon World fame:

My players arrived to the village of Brambletree. The road lead to the village's center: A public circle.

I did have my own take on what was prominent in the center of the circle, but I asked my players the question, "what do you see in the center of the circle?" and I gave them ideas like a tree, a well, etc. Not exhaustive or prescriptive. The barbarian player answered "stockades."

It started with a memory of the creature for the Scarred Lands setting, that got my attention back when I bought my first #TTRPG book : the Creature Collection.
Then, I wanted to bring some themes to Dungeon World.

Someone talked to me about it this week, it revived this memory. It's a class/character that I'm very proud of.

Has anyone used online RPG assistants to run games with remote players?

As I got older and my friends got families and moved away, it's been more difficult to find the time - both to prepare *and* play.

I'm wondering if online tools make it easier to get a sustained, regular campaign running?

@pteryx @OskarGhoti Honestly... I don't really want to play D&D-like games anymore. About the only one I still enjoy is 13th Age.

If I want to play heroic fantasy (which, honestly, is far from my favotite genre), I'd prefer playing an NSR game like Black Sword Hack or Into the Odd, a narrative-focused RPG like Dungeon World, or a skill-based level-less game like Swords of the Serpentine.

Today's #DungeonWorld #TTRPG session went very well. Another character entered the world, and it was all very play-to-find-out. My prep was basically "the supply caravan arrived safely, but a spy/assassin was among the crew"

Hello! Being the professional lurker and procrastinating artist that I am, I have put off my #introduction post.

I’m an #artist and animator, and I have been getting into #ttrpg since the pandemic. Currently running a game of #dungeonworld as well as some solo #ironsworn. I love #worldbuilding and drawing #maps for my games! Always curious about procedures, new ideas for games, and ways to further build out worlds.

@MJPsycs So, I recommended the 5x5 matrix on that other thread, but it's very player-centric in a way that, frankly, I don't do anymore. (It's like five criss-crossing railroads.)

The "one weird trick" is to flip those 5-stage adventures into 5-stage "campaign fronts" a la #DungeonWorld, ie the progression of villains' plans, or climate events (winter is coming), or cult spreading etc for PCs to, at their leisure, intersect.

And you, in between sessions, pick and choose which to advance.

Another good online session of my custom #DungeonWorld #TTRPG hack this evening. It's very much a "Play to find out what happens" game, and we're finding out all sorts of fun things.

In meiner Dungeon World Runde sind die Spieler gerade in einen alten vergessenen Elfen Tempel eingedrungen und habe Gruftspinnen entdeckt. Wir haben herausgefunden, dass der Biss die Toten nach einiger Zeit in Zombies verwandelt. Durch eine 7-9 bei Gefahr trotzdem, habe ich einen Move gemacht und die Zombies platzen auf wenn sie „sterben“ und geben einen Spinnenschwarm frei, den die Spinne in dem Kadaver abgelegt hat. Genau für sowas mag ich DW. #dungeonworld #PbtA #pnpde #ttrpg #systemmatters

I am still working on my Folk Horror PbtA game, and I am trying more subtle horror. The players aren’t heroes; they are more anti-heroes, for they are mostly deserters, criminals, and other lowlifes on the run from the English civil war of the 1640s.
