Any #FLOSS #Linux security #camera / #DVR recommendations? I've been using #Zoneminder for years, but I tire of its constant high CPU usage, ancient motion detection algorithms, etc. So far, #Frigate, #iSpy, and #Shinobi look interesting. The #HomeAssistant integration in them is a plus, and #Frigate has ML offload to a TPU (available as a USB dongle) for dramatic reduction in CPU and power usage (and more sophisticated detection; differentiating cars from people, etc.) #AskFedi

What we needed then and now are dumb #DVR that work just like an old school VCR. But with a drive carriage that let you hotplug hard drives or SD Cards instead of tapes.

The device would use a basic #AndroidTV install and you'd automate it all using #HomeKit

Every now and then I get really excited by an open source project and then slowly feel let down by the way it works and have to move along.
Today that project is kerberos.io the DVR project. I should've known that a project that used the already ubiquitous security software name would lack perspective, and yet it is very pretty.
... and rewrote their camera handler without h265 support.
Sigh.
Off to look for new #DVR software again.

Not being click-baity, but I feel like not enough people in the #SelfHosted community know about #Channels

It's a self-hosted #DVR which uses the #TVEverywhere model to allow you to connect it to your Live TV provider of choice. Mine is #Hulu

I've used this to escape from Hulu's horrific and unstable interface. It provides a TV Guide service for the upcoming 2 weeks.

Also - it happily indexes and serves your own media (ala #Plex , #Jellyfin). You can add your own #streaming feeds [Outdoor webcams, Indoor webcams, Online streams]

ALSO! You can make custom "channels" out of any of this content. Make a channel for you kid with Paw Patrol content, wherever it comes from.

Not a paid endorsement by any means, I just can't get over how stupidly-good this service is. I've had it a month and it's changed my TV life.

I have a couple of eufy ip cameras.. I knew the had a "DVR" mode, just never really looked into it.. I bought the SDcard for them and off they went.. I somehow came across ispy. Which I could add to my cluster and then just add the cameras and record there.. Well SHIT!! So much better than their app. Nice addition to the #homelab.

I know!! Eufy been doing some shady shit or was involved in some shady shit.. I'm ganna have to get new ones.

Currently recording a metric crap ton of #digimon episodes since I heard that most of the series was leaving #Hulu in about 9 days. I know lots of #streaming services have been dropping content lately and I'm not going to take any chances so I'm saving it all on my #Plex server. I'd you have a #mediaserver and #PlayOn and you like Digimon you might want to get recording.
