Having really only ever used #dwm as my #linux windows manager, am I right that #i3 / #sway just doesn't support dynamic window management (dock mode, monocle mode, floating mode, spiral, etc.) that dwm does? That it's pretty much just tiling only? I spent a small amount of time playing with sway and couldn't figure out how to get it to switch modes like this.

My modification of dwm which aims to turn the window manager into something resembling the acme editor is now quite usable.

@thelinuxEXP I’m not a #gnome guy. I don’t like the workflow, because it can take too much memory. And I use #i3 with autotiling and #dwm with a few patches.

Perso etant sous une #debian #sid avec #dwm comme gestionaire de fenetre et je fais un max de chose dans le terminal (#lxterminal).

New #laptop. Slightly tired of old thinkpads, now I have something thinner and USB-C chargable: #thinkpad X13 Yoga Gen 3. I'm thinking of installing #kde on it instead of #dwm this time too. Let's see how that goes.

@pebbe Mooi dat je zo consistent blijft aan dezelfde wm al die jaren :) Fvwm heb ik zelf nooit echt gebruikt; ik begon (rond 1999) met #windowmaker, de grote desktop environments (gnome, kde) hebben me nooit zo aangetrokken, de "unity" interface van ubuntu later ook niet. Wel heb ik #openbox en #xfce nog een tijdje gedraaid in de jaren 2000-2010. Laatste decennium of meer zit ik op tiling window managers (lange tijd #dwm, nu #hyprland sinds de overstap van X11 naar Wayland).

@drmorr #Wayland has been on the rise recently and so have their WMs. The most famous I know are #Hyprland and #Sway. Now X11 WMs, there’s #i3, #bspwm, #awesomewm, #xmonad, #qtile, #dwm and more that I just don’t remember

In other news, I've been using #Ubuntu #Gnome full time. I can say I'm as comfortable with out-of-the-box Gnome as with my built-from-source, very-personalized #dwm. I get people are sometimes pretty opinionated and even argumentative about their digital environments, but I guess I've learnt to Stop Worrying and Love The Get Things Done. XD

For those interested in a well built, lightweight Debian based disto geared towards running window managers (wm), not Desktop Environments, you may find LiliDog of interest. I use LiliDog (running sid, rolling unstable Debian). I use it with the following in a single-user space: i3wm, bspwm, openbox, hlwm, and dwm.

Yesterday I figured out why JOSM was not working on my machine.

For Java, there is a hardcoded list of window managers, and it refuses to draw the widgets if yours is not in the list. Therefore, under :dwm: , I have to lie about what my window manager is, and then I can use it.
