Synths can also look very similar and be completely different. The four synths all work on drastically different principles*—we have subtractive, additive, and FM synthesis, and also sampling. They have as different as a tuba and a violin.
But that’s one of the coolest things about synths and other #ElectronicInstruments: their form factor is arbitrary relative to the sounds they make.

The very diffuse and wide pad sound on the chorus and solo bridge was actually made from a #SID-chip sample.
The saw lead in the soli is a Moog emulator, and the partnering sine lead is an #Oberheim one.
The squeaky little sine lead is a 2010's soft synth recreation of an old custom Korg M1 patch of mine.
The riser and bell-like effects in the background of the solo bridge (at 3:05) is a custom #DX7 patch I did in #Dexed.
