Curious if anyone knows much about #DharmaTrading company #procion dyes and could help me diagnosis a couple issues? One is the Mosstrosity Hoodie, and the other is a cotton canvas hat that failed to take #dye well. Not sure why?

The madder is rioting enthusiastically. I may save some seed from that as well. I am thinking of digging up a bit in the fall, to see how it’s doing.
The weld that I’m letting go to seed is drying out nicely. I already harvested some, and there are cute wavy-leaved rosettes for next year. Its ancestors came from @tstooth
I left the dyer’s chamomile for the bees this year.

Synthetic carminic acid is complex to produce. Therefore, natural cochineal carmine is predominant on the market.
To prepare carmine, powdered scale insect bodies are boiled in an ammonia or sodium carbonate solution. #Gelatin may be added to modify the precipitation.
To obtain 1 pound of red dye, one needs 70,000 cochineal bugs.
