Fluctuation, oscillation, intermittent symptoms, flare-up, unpredictable, irregular...these words all describe #dynamicDisability. We need to acknowledge common languages.

Seemingly unrelated ways of being have similar (dynamic) impacts on #accommodations + #inclusiveDesign strategy. Workplaces, schools, institutions rarely take the dynamic nature of #disability into account when making accommodations + designing for #accessibility / #a11y

@jodotcom Sorry you have post polio. One of my former co-workers had that diagnosis.

Regarding folks abusing disabled parking placards, it's true that some folks abuse them. But since no one can tell just by looking it's best to give folks the benefit of the doubt.

That person who looks fine may have a dynamic disability - one day they're doing sort of okay, the next day they are in bed. So they may need that parking spot after all to conserve energy.

You know how you feel before coffee? #Disabled people feel that way and worse AFTER coffee.

Please believe us when we tell you it’s a rough day.

There’s also #DynamicDisability! I feel fantastic some days. I Can do a two minute burst of exercise 20 times a day on those days.

Sometimes I sit at my desk, read an API, understand it, and write code that works.

Other times, Siri or Alexa timeout while they’re waiting for me to remember which room I’m in so I can say the right command to turn a light on or off.

Chronic illness and disabilities can be very strange things when they pick and choose when to strike.
