The first time we were in #Reynisfjara, the black sand #beach near #Vík in the south coast of #Iceland, back in 2013, the weather turned from sunny to stormy and back to sunny in mere minutes. This was taken during the stormy period. Most Iceland visitors seem to prefer sunny weather, but I personally like my Iceland moody.

Isn't it strange that I didn't see this lone sea stack when I visited Dyrhólaey for the first time? Only saw it on my second visit there. I mean, it's kind of hard to miss. I guess I didn't pay enough attention.

I think everyone who's been to #Iceland has a version of this photo of the black sand beach as seen from #Dyrholaey. I didn't get this shot until our second road trip in October 2017 because the lighthouse area, from which this photo was taken, was closed for bird nesting season on our first trip in May 2013. We went here first thing in the morning at sunrise to beat the crowd. The crowd beat us anyway, but at least it was small-ish?

Accessible only by 4WD, just before sunset, we drove to the top of the promenade of #Dyrhólaey where there were staggering views over #Iceland ’s black sand beaches complemented by the glittering waves of the Atlantic on one side, and distant mountain scapes to the other.
On top of #Dyrhólaey stands Dyrhólaeyjarviti, a beautiful old lighthouse.
This is a long exposure taken during winter while I was standing on the edge of the mountain. It was a bit scary as no barriers in sight and quite windy.
