Errrgh being dyslexic is both frustrating and hilarious.
Today I managed to misspell the word 'parties' and sent an email saying we've had issues dealing with other 'pirates'.

I’m working on a concept for a language built on universal design for #accessibility.
I’m imagining #braille being standardized for easy transition between inked and embossed formats, so #blind and seeing people could read the same text.
But I’m wondering whether it could be tweaked for #dyslexic readers with comma-like serifs. Serifs in Latin typography aren’t dyslexia-friendly, but I’m wondering whether braille would be and how that would affect readability for blind readers.
Thoughts?

Are you going to university this autumn and need to apply for Disabled Students' Allowance?
Here's the best guide I've ever seen on DSA from Harriet Cannon, Disability Advisory Team Manager at the University of Leeds.

Have made Shantell Sans my editor font in Obsidian and it's so good.
Highly recommend to all the "Comic Sans is life" dyslexics out there, plus it's a variable font with some very cool custom axes.
@emerybrooks I'm not a publisher, I am a hobbiest writer, so perhaps I don't have a stake in this discussion, but... #Ebooks provide some very wonderful things for the #disabled community.
My ex-wife in her dying years was too weak to hold up a book and didn't have the dexterity (I don't want to get into her health issues though) to hold a book and turn pages. She could prop a tablet on her lap when she would sit up in bed to eat and read.
I had a girlfriend once who was #blind and I'm still good friends with her. If she doesn't have an ebook or other electronic form she just can't read it. Yes, there are audio books but that can be exceptionally expensive for small publishers / authors.
There's also me, myself, I'm #dyslexic -- the only 2 ways I can comfortably read a text is #audiobook or with the #opendyslexic font on a #kindle / similar #ereader / tablet. For me, yes I can see the words but it is such a cognitive load to read a paperback or hardcover that I just won't do it, it isn't worth it.
So yes, you are of course worried about #plagiarism of #AI -- I agree with you. It is a HUGE issue. However, there are legal remedies for someone using your name without consent, passing things off / impersonating you. I know that legal remedy isn't available for everyone but -- it is there. Please don't advocate for those who have difficulty reading paper books to lose the ability to do so when there are other options.
Those with disabilities are marginalized enough, if you really want to get into this issue check out the hashtags and talk to the communities that it would be impacting. Please, please, understand that many of these people just don't experience the world the way the average person does. Consider that equipment for disabled people is exceedingly expensive. For example, a #braille terminal for a #visuallyimpaired person costs almost $3000! So when there is such an easy way to get the text into the hands of a blind person ready for a screen reader or other device to read it for them, please don't advocate take it away.

My #dyslexic brain spent way too much time this morning wondering why everyone was happy Robert Pattinson was dead. 😅
Question for #dyslexic folk ... what colours of text + background work best for you, for presentation slides?
(thank you 🤗 )
An idea for a Mastodon - an #accessibility feature for #dyslexic peeps, who find the Post button to be a thinly veiled masking device for ‘Hide all Mistakes’.
Toot Buddy: Instead of pressing Post and sending your malformed, error strewn riddle into space, you tap ‘Buddy Correct’. The post gets sent to your drafts AND to chosen mate, who spots all the clangers and hits ‘comprehensible’. You get an alert and hit ‘Post’.
(Wipes sweaty brow, turns away from investors and stumbles imto lift. )
Argh, there now appears to be a woozle stat whereby someone went
about 10% of people are dyslexic, therefore
there are 780 million dyslexic people
in order to get a big number to make a business case 😭
A thought: once you get to a number this big, the group will be extremely heterogeneous! To the extent that defining them as a group may be extremely unhelpful for your use case.
@Stoned_Deva_ @OutOnTheMoors 😆
For a #dyslexic like me, the Post button should be probably be renamed: ‘Ought2Correct’
I read about how a Texan professor failed half of his class because #ChatGPT told him that they cheated. I'm glad I'm not in school. Being wrongfully accused of making up sources is one thing. But I would tear out my hair if anyone accused me of using AI to write, especially as a #dyslexic that struggles daily with language.
@nerdybutcute I have a coworker with a very thick lower-class-associated accent who is also very clearly #ADHD and #dyslexic. He's also more practical than theoretical.
He's been working at a world-renowned institution for almost 40 years, was involved in building a lot of the fundamental technology they use and was a system engineer for it for a long time.
He knows what he's doing.
I have two A-levels in Maths.
Will never forget that being able to do this depended entirely upon on a single teacher when I was 14 seeing past my #dyslexic addition and subtraction errors and moving me up a set. My entire life course would be very different if not for this.
Shout-out to everyone else who is also not enjoying the current discourse.
I don't even bitter to fix your and you're mistakes anymore :)
i tried to spell crowdfunding as croud and then i tried craud before i realized i had already typed disability crowdfund correcting so just copied it from there
#dyslexic brains are weird! fun and interesting and weird
Today I read this gorgeous book by #Dyslexic #IrishAuthor Selena Molloy. It is about a #Dyslexic girl growing up, struggling to believe in herself, and her love of a dolphin. Better still, it is written in verse.

I have a question for an adjacent #neurodivergent community. #Dyslexic folks, is it common for people with your diagnosis to be really good at art? My daughter is dyslexic, and she just blew me away with something 3D she was drawing freehand. I've read that it can be associated with improved visuospatial skills, and I'm curious if the two might be related.
Apologies in advance if I'm propagating nonsense stereotypes. I just want to learn more about how her brain works, and I figure other people with the same diagnosis are the best people to ask.
