That was an experience. I tried filling up my Honda at a gas station, an ad was already playing on the screen (with audio) when I put in my credit card. It locked my card while the rest of the mountain dew ad played.

Let me say that again... I had to wait for an ad to pay for my gas. I thought the machine may have been broken and that it ate my card. When the ad finished, it authorized and let me pump my gas. Wtf

We've been playing some Gamma World 1e lately, it's been a blast! One of the best things about the game is that you get superpowers!

I mean mutations. Depending on the referee you could either choose your mutations (and the GM chooses any defects) or roll them randomly. We always opted to roll them randomly. Each player with a mutated character rolls 1d4 to determine each of their physical and mental mutations.

Keep in mind that #artificalintelligence is analogous to an infant learning to speak. Infants and AI pattern match. They guess at meaning, attempt responses, and their parents correct them—then supply more patterns to further learning. Eventually the infant progresses from babbling to speaking. This is especially true for the infant when it learns the joys of communication, and the precision of controlling the behavior of everyone around it with threats and intimidation through the use of words—especially by employing, "No!"

What AI experience is debatable. It's need to respond or control things is programmed, so the infant analogy breaks down in this respect... I think.

When the infant is old enough and AI productive enough, it is taught more until it tests at being able to understand. Both children and AIs can and should receive higher and higher meta education that will allow the interpretation of vagary and societal scaffoldings. For example getting jokes, creating jokes, and knowing when some jokes aren't appropriate.

In a sense, the #AI we experience haven't yet gone to school, dealt with bullies, discovered that cheating will get you paddled, learned morals or ethics, or learned to care about their peers (or humans). Some AI will be educated in all of this; others probably won't—and that should scare you. This is like letting a six-year-old have a gun.

AI are scary because they are uneducated, uninculturated, and uninculcated (yet). To sense the extent of the state of the art, pun intended, use an AI image generator and take note how it gets the world wrong. These constructs subtly render humans and other subjects incorrectly in ways no sane person would render them. Take a few minutes to get a good whiff of what insanity looks like. If a human did this level of crazy, they'd be recommended for psychiatry.

#AI will not remain in the infant stage forever, and yes it will be able to read more and more complicated captchas soon. Over the last few years, these baffling Are-You-A-Human challenges have gotten so that impaired humans often fail (myself as an example).

Yes, AI will take your job.

Or it will make it so people less educated or less experienced can do your job for less money.

Or it will eliminate the least efficient white collar workers in favor of a supervisor of AI responses.

This is the evolution of work. Employers pay for labor, and the jobs they offer are predicated on this. AI, like automation, is less expensive in the long run than paying payroll.

Remain skeptical. Continue to learn and train to do things that can't yet be automated and aren't yet capable of being assisted by AI. Eventually #basicIncome will be necessary, or society will fall apart. In which case, be ready to bring on the pitch forks and torches!
