I use #Linux as the main OS on my computers, but also use Windows 10 on one.
For the sole reason to download the #ebooks I buy.
I play the occasional Windows-only game as well, but those I can do without.
I can't do without ebooks.
I really, really wish there was an open standard for getting any ebook, with or without #drm, onto any device without having to rely on a single piece of software from one company.

I only buy #DRMfree #eBooks because #DRM is bad and there are less obnoxious ways to discourage #piracy.

Ooooh, that's pretty cool... I just discovered that (under *nix anyway...elsewhere YMMV) you can open ebooks directly in Calibre's reader, without opening the whole program and database.

Just do:

Oh, me? I'm spending time this Saturday updating the metadata in my ebook library and honestly, I'm happy as a clam.

There's a lot of cleanup to be done and I'm also busy looking for and updating cover art. I find that lately, I really love the old paperback cover art style from the 70s & 80s.

I even found an old movie poster for an adaptation of H. G. Wells' The Invisible Man that'll serve as the ebook cover because it's just ... *chef's kiss* perfect!

Does anyone know of publishers who sell DRM-free ebooks besides Tor? As I'm moving my ebook library over to my Boox device, I'm running into the DRM issue on a lot of my Kobo library.

Now, you might say, "Just download the Kobo app and read them through it."

Which is fair and I've done that. However, this introduces a new issue: the feature set and font/layout handling on those proprietary apps STINKS.

I want my book money to support DRM-free and authors. Any good storefronts?

My new Boox e-reader arrived today and I'm already blown away by it. The screen seems so crisp and the text sharper than my older Kobo.* And it's so snappy!

Also, this thing was packaged like a premium tablet; my phone didn't come this nicely packed and presented.

It's very early and I'm still setting it up, but so far I'm very happily impressed. Now to install my library apps!

*No shade to Kobo, that old Aura HD served me well for about 11 years now.

Today, after much research and deliberation, I ordered a Boox e-reader. The feature set, the ability to step out of walled gardens, and to easily connect to my local library sealed the deal for me.

And almost as soon as I clicked "Buy," my credit union flagged it as a suspicious purchase. (It's all ironed out now, though.)

Btw, for anyone reading, I finally found the best epub reader for technical books (imo).. moon reader+ android

The typical epub app 'page flip' doesn't mesh well with code block navigation, but it supports scrolling well once you figure out how to enable it. There's a minor kink where it separates chapters/sections, but it seems to be an epub feature.

It also has fantastic syntax highlighting / styling support.
