Internet has just been restricted in #eSwatini by the government. I’m currently using a VPN to access most social media apps.

The silence of SA and other African countries whilst citizens of eswatini call for a democracy is astonishing, shocking and sad. #EswatiniProtests

The right to protest is pivotal for the proper functioning of a democracy and the ability for ordinary people to demand accountability and justice. We fully support the activists of Eswatini. #OngaziMakazi #RightToProtest #EswatiniProtests https://twitter.com/SAHRDNetwork/status/1443887046716690438

#eSwatini (formerly #Swaziland*) is run by an ultra-wealthy monarchy. This monarchy supported the apartheid government that ruled south Africa / Azania until the 1990s, & ever since has continued to violently exploit the people within its borders; many of the major companies operating there are owned largely or partly by the king, his wives (yes, plural), or his dozens of children (yes, dozens).
Movements for both capitalist, representative democracy and socialist revolution in eSwatini have gained momentum in the last decade, despite the political, economic, & military support of such ~freedom-loving~ "nations" as the usa, Taiwan, & israel. This has exploded into a popular insurrection over the last week. Rebels have been torching practically anything widely associated with the monarchy, while the royal army has killed or critically injured hundreds of people in response. They also shut down internet services to suppress the spread of information, as is standard at this point.
You can follow on Twitter using hashtags like #eSwatiniProtests, #SwaziLivesMatter, #MswatiMustFall, & others you'll find if you start from those. **watch out for photos of bloody injured or dead protesters**. Our next post is going to include some links, action suggestions, & explanation of the asterisk above...
