Eaglet!
I found out about this eagle nest cam a few weeks ago here are Mastodon, and been checking it to see how the nesting is going, and some time in the last 24 hours the eagle couple's egg hatched!!
The eagles are feeding the chick from bits of a furry something that’s at the edge of the nest
signs of spring! 🦅🐣

I have been following the Big Bear Bald Eagle Live Nestcam:

Great view into the life of bald eagles, such magnificent creatures. Two eggs were laid about 40 days ago, now everyone is waiting for them to hatch. The parents take turn sitting on the eggs.
The last days with the blizzard snow storm in So Cal were tense for viewers - but it's nature!
Interesting recap from the blizzard hours here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqxs1mihh5A
Make sure to scroll this Big Bear #eaglecam back a bit to get the full feel of this mother's devotion to task.

An #Eaglecam clip of the quake has been posted by LadyHawk. Eaglet Simba is in perched on a branch with mom Jackie (further from the camera), having settled in for the night.
After they first notice the branch shaking, Jackie is alarmed and flies off. Then about 20 seconds into it, the shaking suddenly becomes much more severe. Simba quickly moves to the center of the nest.
We continue hearing Jackie vocalizing from nearby. Simba is obviously quite scared. 🙁
Simba, the eaglet at the Big Bear, CA #Eaglecam nest has been through a lot the last two days, along with everyone else. Simba hasn't fledged yet.
First was the 6.4 quake just after 10:30 am July 4th, which from the video, didn't seem to alarm him too much.
Then that night was a big fireworks show at the lake, which scared eagle mom Jackie away and left Simba sitting stock still in fear. Jackie was gone all night and all day today and didn't return to the nest until this evening!

I guess I'll post this sad news from the Big Bear Lake, California nest. Yesterday morning (Mon. 5/27), one of the eaglets (Cookie) died. There have been several bouts of cold, wet weather lately. This happened after another night of snow and icy rain.
The same thing happened last year with a loss of one of the eaglets in similar conditions. This isn't the best place to raise eaglets--high elevation with harsh weather.

The Big Bear, California #EagleCam was turned off today while the eaglets were banded. Some nests do this and some don't, depending on the state or which agencies are monitoring them.
Eaglets at most of the cams I watch don't get banded, but they do it at some nests in California, especially on the islands where they are still trying to reestablish the eagle population after it was devastated by the effects of DDT.
The banding today went well and both eaglets were found to be male.
The weather was miserable at the Big Bear, California #EagleCam this morning with rain, wind, and cold temperatures. In this video clip, Mom eagle Jackie is doing her best to shelter the chicks, who are just about too big to fit under her wings.
Fortunately the rain stopped later and they dried out, which is good since it's going to get down to freezing tonight! 😐

Lady Hawk posted a sweet video clip of Dad Shadow & the eaglets from the Big Bear, California #EagleCam.
The eaglets are about 3 1/2 weeks old now, changing from what I call the "chicken phase" to the "dinosaur phase", where darker down has come in & most of the baby fuzz is gone, except for the tops of their heads.
Their feet are huge & pin feathers on the wings are starting to grow. Another term I use at this stage is "hideously adorable".
The Big Bear, California eagle chicks are doing well! They're 4 and 5 days old today. Here's a screenshot of them getting fed yesterday. We pretty much only see them at feeding time at this stage, which happens every couple of hours or so. The rest of the time they're being kept warm under a parent.

The second chick at the Big Bear eagle nest successfully hatched today.
Congratulations on your new family, Jackie and Shadow! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
