Elgin had Gen. Koehler’s troops loot the sacred Boustrophedon marble from a church at Sigaeum on 3 Nov. 1799.
He didn’t arrive at Athens till 3 April 1802 = 881 days later.
So it’s a fallacy that what he saw in Athens caused him to collect to protect art!
