Have been working on my new intro to Bible through the lenses of #EarlyChristian exegesis, material culture, and the arts (real mish-mash for sure but a fun one I hope). Was listening to a classical music mix when I had an idea.
And found this perfect article!
After sailing by it each time we went to Skellig Michael, it was fantastic to finally get to visit Illaunloughan at the weekend, lovely site!
Recommend the really interesting publication on the excavation there by Jenny White Marshall and Claire Walsh.

OTD in 2013 I arrived in #Naples which was my base for researching late antique and #EarlyChristian material culture in southern Italy relevant to my project on the iconography of the intellectual.
What a view from the bay!

Thanks to everyone who piped in on this one. I've duly performed the ritual (or habit?) of liking, replying and retweeting.

We discussed #EarlyChristian #liturgy in class today. We started by talking about what "ritual" is and how ritual is a part of people's lives in both religious and non-religious contexts. One student asked about the difference between "ritual" and "habit". How would you answer?

Gallarus Oratory, probably built between the 6th and 13th century AD. It is the best preserved early Christian Church in Ireland. Some believe it could have been a burial place. As with the stone beehive buildings, a corbelling technique has been used to enable the rain to run off.

The encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well was a common theme in #EarlyChristian #art. Here's a fragmentary 5th c. example from an EC baptistery in #Naples

Damn, I forgot to celebrate St Melโs Day, the Irish holiday for single people!
It was on 7 February (some sources reckon 6 February)
When I learned there was a saint called Mel I was tremendously excited, but to learn he was the patron saint of single people was the icing on the cake
Hereโs the story I wrote about it a thousand internet years ago
