A wonderful discovery in #Leeds could be a treasure trove of information about the #EarlyMedieval period.

An ancient lead coffin has been unearthed in a previously undiscovered, 1,600-year-old Leeds cemetery which could help unlock the secrets of one of the most significant periods in British history.

Like all the best things, I didn’t set out to visit this incredible cross slab (the Eassie Pictish Stone), but stumbled across it during a road trip! It’s become one of my favourites- the details on the carvings are really spectacular.

What a fantastic discovery! 7th century burial of wealthy Christian, possibly an abbess, with items carrying "a distinctly pagan flavour." Would have been ideal material for one of my dissertations had it been discovered a few decades ago.
