I was lucky enough to take a class with him on colonialism in early modern texts at Duke in the late 1990s. Great class!
I still remember how expertly he tore apart my paper on V.S. Naipaul and Walter Raleigh, noting everything Naipaul was getting wrong about colonial Caribbean history. He helped me see that Naipaul would likely be a waste of my time...

Haven't read #CharlesTaylor before but I recall that his book, Sources of the Self, was a central text in the second-year core curriculum for the #EarlyModernStudies program when I was an undergraduate student.
Interesting to be reading Sources of the Self for the first time as an assigned reading for a #TeachingAndLearning course I'm taking at #UBC.
