A nice surprise: an Eastern Meadowlark in a tree. I usually hear them before I see them.

And spend lots of time searching for their head sticking out of tall grass in a meadow.

In a couple of weeks we've gone from noticing the first #redwingedblackbirds to there being dozens having a raucous jam in the trees by the house. Lots of grackles in the mix, too. Did have another first today, though: #easternmeadowlark. Didn't see it but kept hearing its call over the fields while out walking down the road with the dogs. #spring
