Bromont had their Visual Arts Symposium this weekend. It was our first time going to downtown #Bromont and absolutely astounded and elated to see the bustling main street filled with 125 artists showcasing their artwork. Beautiful paintings galore, but you really have to go there determined to spend a hefty amount to bring a canvas home. However, worth the visit to see local talent showcase.

The #REM grand opening is only for the Brossard/South Shore leg of the system. West Island and Deux-Montagnes lines are expected to open next year in 2024, and the link to the airport in 2027 (🥴). Seeing how incredibly efficient the system is with its own dedicated track, I really would love to see a new rail line built to the #EasternTownships instead of using the freight lines owned by CP and CN. Let's just build down Highway 10 in the median, I mean the space is there.

#PublicTransit can work and attract lots of commuters to use it. For a city like #Montreal where 1/4 of commuters regularly use public transit, I'm not surprised by its success. Commuters love trains, even more when it gives fast, efficient service with a view. Bravo to lucky Montrealers! We can only envy and dream about it out here in the #EasternTownships.

I realize that public transit only comes about if there is a will from all levels of govt. If you don’t have a mayor, a provincial PM and federal PM + some corporate entity that wants to put forward better #publictransit projects, then there are no projects on the horizon.
If #Sherbrooke and the #EasternTownships ever hope to get rail going in our region, this would be a collective Herculean effort on all levels of govt. Sad but true.

All this train talk really makes me wish that #Estrie would get a move on in getting the Orford Express (or at least that rail line) moving again within the region. I never got to experience it, but would be nice to get passenger rail here again.

Also, support your local flower farms! There’s a growing movement of flower farms that offer locally grown bouquets, seeds and bulbs. Better for the environment, get better varieties and not become wholly dependent on imports from Holland. I learned last year that Victoriaville even has a peony society where they compete for best blooms for this flower!

It took way too long but we finally had enough natural snow and low temperatures for the available ski slopes at Mont Orford to be perfect. Hopefully, tomorrow’s snowstorm will allow them to open the rest.

I love living in the #EasternTownships and it seems that the New York Times agrees.

"De Sherbrooke à Granby en passant par Lac-Mégantic, les résidants pourront continuer d’utiliser les noms Estrie ou Cantons-de-l’Est, à leur convenance, pour nommer leur région, a tranché le gouvernement du Québec."
