"Melissa" (sometimes called "Sweet Melissa") is a song by American rock band #theAllmanBrothersBand, released in August 1972 as the second single from the group's fourth album, #EatAPeach. The song was written by vocalist #GreggAllman in 1967, well before the founding of the group. Two #demoVersions from those years exist, including a version cut by #the31stOfFebruary, a band that featured #ButchTrucks, the Allman Brothers' later drummer.

51 years ago today, Duane Allman died in a motorcycle accident, just 24 years old. He was one of the greatest guitarists to ever roam the earth. He was the guitar break on Wilson Pickett's cover of Hey Jude, released weeks after the Beatles original came out. He wrote the opening riff on Layla, and the slide solo with, in the words of Tom Dowd, "notes that aren't on the instrument". He wrote one of the best guitar duets ever, with Dickey Betts on Blue Sky.
#EatAPeach in Duane's memory today.
